Prologue

16 February 2021 LastPass decided to use aggressive marketing and cut off half of free user experience. Free users have to decide do they want to use password manager on mobile or desktop devices but not both. Gross.

I decided to migrate to another free or at lease non-subscription password manager. I have found only one service that meets that criterion - Bitwarden.

But then I understood I use only Apple powered devices so may be it is time to sell my ass to Tim Cook.

How to migrate from LastPass to Apple Keychain

1. Export passwords to csv file

Copy-paste snippet below in the terminal

/Applications/Google\ Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google\ Chrome -enable-features=PasswordImport

3. Import csv file from LastPass to Google Chrome

In Google Chrome open Settings (⌘,)

Passwords β†’ Import

4. Import password In Safari from Chrome lol

Safari β†’ File β†’ Import From β†’ Google Chrome

Done πŸ€“

Safari will sync all your passwords to keychain automatically. Now all passwords stored in Apple Cloud for free now. Do not forget to enable cloud keychain on your devices, xoxo
